Fitness Challenge - the plank position
Today, I would like to share with you a very inspiring story of how quickly you can change yourself and your state of fitness.
My client Beazie came to us about a month ago to start training for her weak core muscles. She had a bad lower back problem and so we started training a mixture of Pilates and other core training exercises. She trains with me 3 times a week and very quickly she improved her strength and was keen to do the more advanced exercises. At the end of each session we practiced the plank position. She started with under 10 seconds of holding the position until I told her that my boss Russell can hold it for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. She wasn’t very impressed by it and so she really wanted to go for longer. And last week, she did 3 minutes and 10 seconds, the new company record.
So the challenge is to break the new company record. Tell your trainer you want to practice and then get on those elbows and toes and hold the position.
To do the plank position properly, get on your knees and lean forward. Place your elbows underneath your shoulders and the hands are flat out on the floor. Then lift your knees up and come onto your toes, bringing your hips in line with the rest of the body. Then keep breathing and holding it up there!

Of course we want to reward you for this. So anyone who can beat the company record with his or her trainer gets that session for free.
Rules:
- do not move your hands or feet
- keep the hips in line with the body the whole time
- don’t come down on your knees in between
- pull the shoulders away from the ears
- the record has to be topped by 5 seconds
